Description

Native Life in South Africa is a book by South African writer Sol Plaatje, first published in 1916. Described as 'one of the most remarkable books on Africa by one of the continent's most remarkable writers', the book explores the politics, laws, and history of South Africa, as well as the Boer war and the aftermath of British policies. The author was a founding member and first General Secretary of the South African Native National Congress (SANNC), which eventually became the African National Congress (ANC). As a member of the SANNC, he traveled to England to protest against the Natives Land Act, 1913, which was put in place to prevent Black South Africans owning any land outside of certain 'reserves'.

This book has 130,455 words, and was originally published in 1916.
